THE SCYTHIAN GOLD

Under the title “Gold of the Scythians” a compilation of archaeological finds from Scythian graves (kurgans) was shown in various museums worldwide. In addition to body jewelry (neck, arm and finger rings), thousands of reliefed patches made of thin gold sheet were found, which were mostly used as garment trimmings, but were also attached to tapestries and other textiles for decoration.

ORIGIN OF THE SCYTHIANS

According to the Greek historian Herodotus, the mythical origin of the Scythians lies far to the east, in the Altai high mountains in southern Siberia and in the border region with China. The oldest graves have been found here so far, from the 9th century BC. However, the distribution of the cavalry and nomadic people took on monstrous dimensions over time, from Mongolia to Kazakhstan, the southern Urals, the Caucasus region and the Ukraine to Romania and Hungary, the sites of Scythian princely tombs range, which archaeologists have been exploring for almost three hundred years hold your breath.

HISTORY OF THE SCYTHIANS

Finds from the first half of the 7th century and the late 4th century BC. B.C. from the northern Black Sea region are referred to as Scythian because of the information provided by Herodotus in archeology. However, this special material culture with decorations in the Scythian animal style, iron short swords, lamellar armour, bronze cauldrons with a high base (typical for the special forms of the bridle gags), catacomb graves under burial mounds kurgans and large anthropomorphic sculptures is spread over a much wider area.
